Mari GeasairICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Mari Geasair

Mari has been an entrepreneur for over 30 years and has worked with hundreds of small business owners, high performing executive and self-employed individuals through one-one coaching, classes and public speaking. She is Coach University CTP graduate and holds a B.A. in Theatre from Colorado University at Boulder. She has been a proud member of the coaching community since 2000, and has maintained a full coaching practice since 2001.

Mari’s “hobbies” include a love for live theatre. She is an actor, director and theatrical producer with extensive professional credits; and many stories to tell about her adventures on the boards.

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
It is my passion to support people in the helping professionals to live a life filled with more joy and less stress. Specifically, I help coaches, therapists and other transformational professionals to master authentic marketing, and practice management strategies so that they can build full, sustainable and high impact private practices.

Overview of Coach’s Philosophy:
Many people approach creating the life of their dreams as though they were searching for the Holy Grail, they think they need to go on a grand adventure looking for something outside of themselves. To me, creating an extraordinary life is more like cleaning out a closet: the greatness is in there, you just need to get rid of the junk that is keeping you from seeing what has been waiting to be appreciated all along.

Coach’s Quote:
“We are all butterflies. Earth is our chrysalis.” – LeeAnn Taylor

Laurie WeissICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Laurie Weiss, Ph.D., MCC

Relationship Communication Expert: Helping very smart people to stop making dumb relationship mistakes and to repair past mistakes one conversation at a time.

Laurie Weiss, PhD is internationally known as an expert who helps other relationship consultation professionals develop their skills. She is a Master Certified Coach (since 1999); Certified Transactional Analysis Trainer; speaker; author of 6 books and dozens of articles as well as a psychotherapist, executive coach and marriage counselor.

She is an expert in the rapid resolution of stress and trauma and one of only two Certified Logosynthesis® Practitioners and trainers in the United States.

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
Empowerment Systems has been helping individuals, couples and groups discover and use their own resources since 1972. Founded as Rocky Mountain Transactional Analysis (TA) Institute to coach clients and professionals to use TA to become happier and more effective in their lives and relationships, we now specialize in discovering and using cutting edge empowerment tools to assist our clients to clarify and achieve their own goals.

We offer coaching, consultation, psychotherapy and published materials (over 60,000 print books sold) to reach our clients through many different modalities. We focus on empowering you to find solutions to specific challenges in your most important relationships.

Overview of Coach’s Philosophy:
I have an unshakeable belief, based on nearly 45 years of experience, that people are doing the very best they can with the resources they have available to them at any given moment. My focus is on empowering people to discover, develop and use the resources they need to reach their own objectives.

My very first coaching encounter in 1969 was teaching my 8th grade students to use Transactional Analysis to figure out how to (successfully) defuse the anger of another teacher so she would stop punishing them for minor infractions.

Coach’s Quote:
“Having successful relationships is one of life’s major challenges. Coaching is one of the most effective tools we have to help our clients meet those challenges and live the rich, full, successful lives they desire and deserve.”

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
Coaches must develop and maintain a belief system and set of skills that are in many ways quite different than those of society in general. Participating in ICF Colorado provides the mutual support and shared information we need to serve our clients and live our principles. It’s also been fun – ever since our second organizational meeting. (I couldn’t attend the first one.)

MAY 2015

Glen CooperICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Glen Cooper

I have coached, appraised and/or sold over 500 businesses in 36 years!

I even sold my own large business brokerage firm in Maine in 2010, returned to my native Colorado, and now am a solo-practitioner business broker/business coach. I serve on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Association of Business Intermediaries (CABI) and am an active Member of ICF / Colorado.

Being a veteran business broker AND a business coach gives me a one-of-a-kind currency that seems to be rare. I am also an author, teacher, seminar/webinar presenter, workshop facilitator and frequent speaker on small business issues.

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
People call me when they’re struggling with small business issues: how to grow their business, turn it around, value it or sell it. But, all business is personal, so it’s never just about the business.

Because I am a coach as well as a broker, I offer them a high level of understanding that only my long experience makes possible. I help my clients discover how the business they create can give them more life instead of taking the life they have.

Coaching Philosophy:
Successful business owners, in the context of owning and running a small business, must figure out what I call the “purpose, promise, offer and difference” of the business. But, businesses don’t have dreams and missions. Only people do. I help business owners explore and discover what that means for them.

Coach’s Quote:
Business and personal success is usually defined as ever-increasing in size, scope and notoriety. We’re supposed to go from small, modest and unsung to rich, powerful and famous. On the contrary, I believe that “small” is a great destination in itself. Businesses give us more life when we recognize that who and what we and our businesses are becoming is what counts – even more than money, power and fame.

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
In my previous career, I maintained five designations in business brokerage and appraisal for almost 30 years. Enough for me! At age 67, my past and continuing life experience is now what gives me the “street cred” I need.

I recommend pursuit of ICF education, especially for someone new to the field. Without pursuing designations myself anymore, I still curiously read everything I can, take courses frequently, and come to the Colorado ICF meetings to learn from the fantastic programs and the lively interaction with my fellow members.

I’m a senior guru in business brokerage and appraisal, and those meetings are “all business” with cash bars, suits, formal lunches and dinners. ICF/CO meetings are much more creative and much more fun!

APRIL 2015

Dido ClarkICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Dido Clark

From my earliest days, I‘ve been interested in listening to people’s stories. I remember writing down playground songs aged six. Since then my life has revolved around both understanding stories and renewal after reversals.

As an anthropology professor, I have taught what authentic wellbeing and resilience looks like in different cultures around the world. Eventually, I became certified as a life coach. I continue to study the science of positive psychology and evidence-based approaches to flourishing and full self-expression, even with struggles and setbacks. As a Quaker, I take a more soulful approach to life and listen carefully for the inner voice within us all.

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
As a coach, I hold everyone to be whole, creative, and resourceful. After going into deeper levels of listening and using powerful questions, I can also hold you accountable for setting and reaching goals. If you want your authentic expression to come through, whether for your personal growth, or to build your business voice, I am happy to hear from you.

Coaching Philosophy:
I love to hear others into authentic speech, to encourage their power, purpose and clarity, whether for personal growth or for business communications. I love to hold the space for others who have struggled to find their true voice.

Coach’s Quote:
To paraphrase Mary Oliver – “What do you want to do with your one, wild, precious life?”

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
ICF Colorado is a friendly, professional group of caring, committed coaches. It offers opportunities of all kinds—whether professional, networking, or educational. These gifts are invaluable, regardless of whether you are a coach in training or have many years of experience.

FEBRUARY 2015

cbarrett150x139ICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Charlie L. Barrett

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
Marketing and sales have been my life. During my career I operated my own marketing firm and also taught “Marketing through Visual Merchandising” at Colorado State University. I lectured at the University of Nebraska, the Denver Merchandise Mart and other national trade shows. After semi-retiring, I traveled for a couple years, crossed off a few “bucket list” items, then developed and followed a “personal evaluation” program. With renewed passion, I set forth to utilize my learned skills and business expertise, along with specialized “Life Coach” training, to assist others with transitioning to their “Post Careers.”

“Your Next Move Now” was developed on the premise of assisting people with understanding how to self evaluate and discover ‘everyday’ passions, plan new goals and objectives, and apply these to a new “Life Game Plan.” Our focus is toward those who are transitioning to their next phase of life and coaching the process that ensures an enjoyable and rewarding future.

Coaching Philosophy:
I don’t do therapy, and I don’t dictate orders, I COACH people. My coaching philosophy is to assist people in discovering their own “Personal Powers,” understand their own “Personal Passions,” evaluate their own “Personal Skills” and implement a “game plan” to utilize these in their daily lives.

Coach’s Quote:
“Do or Do Not, There is No Try.” (Yoda). Coaches help people “Do,” not just “Try.”

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
Although I have only been a member for a brief time, I have already met other coaches that have offered useful insight to my efforts. ICF Colorado’s Fall Conference provided terrific information from other professionals in forwarding my skills and ideas for improving my coaching abilities and business. I always enjoy time spent with other professionals to hear and see their personal ideas, strengths and values to the world.
