Coaching Philosophy:
To me, coaching is facilitating my client’s personal success story. I believe that our personal story best informs what we need to share with the world, and what the world ultimately needs most from us. Who we have been, who we are being, and who we are to be…and how we get there: this is the wisdom we have to share with others. Do we dare go there?

Coach’s Quote:
“Coaching and being coached – a gift of human connection through symbiotic conversation in the name of purpose, action, creation, and worldly manifestation.” Nancy Chen

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
Is, like everything, exactly what we make it. It’s always up to us. ICF is opportunity. To connect, express our ideas and talent, disrupt the status quo, be the difference, create a movement, live a truly prosperous life. The difference is that here, we can do it with others who may be more like us in mind, heart, intention, and purpose. The value I want most to create for myself at ICF is a meaningful connection with my coaching colleagues and to contribute my unusual skill set to create better coaching.

jknickbocker140x175November 2014
ICF Colorado In the Spotlight:
Jim Knickerbocker, Ph.D.

Much of my career focused on driving or supporting major organizational change — in executive management roles and as a consultant. My most recent work was as a social entrepreneur for innovative start-up nonprofits in the education sector. Before that I had a long career at Hewlett-Packard, where I consulted to HP executives and ran a management consulting practice for HP customers. I graduated cum laude from Princeton with a BA in Economics, hold an MA in Management from John F. Kennedy University, and a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate University. My doctorate focused on the use of experiential learning to help people adapt to change. I am an ICF Professional Certified Coach, a Certified Integral Coach with New Ventures West in San Francisco, and member of the American Psychological Association.

Overview of Business and Coaching Focus:
I coach people so they love their work. That could mean addressing specific work challenges to become more effective in an existing job, or finding entirely new jobs or new careers. I also help organization leaders with executive coaching, team building and organization development consulting.

Coaching Philosophy:
I take a developmental coaching approach, meaning that it’s not enough to help the client figure out their “answers” but vital to develop the client — mentally, physically or spiritually — to be able to put those answers into meaningful action. I look at the client’s current identity, narratives, and sources of energy to determine powerful leverage points.

Coach’s Quote:
Even the world’s best brain surgeon wouldn’t try operating on himself (I hope!). Coaching provides a powerful window on our own life – both as it is today and what’s possible tomorrow.

Comments on ICF CO Membership:
One of my mentors said “you cheat your clients when you work alone.” Being an ICF Colorado member helps me bring the “wisdom of the many” to my work with my clients. In addition, it’s a great group of people that I enjoy spending time with.

Coach’s Philosophy:
Every individual is an awesome being with dreams and visions and a desire to make a difference. Successful people do what they say they will do and move forward exploring all their is. What is true is that we don’t have to do everything alone. . . . there are individuals waiting to support us. Just ask.

Coach’s Quote Regarding the Value of Coaching:
What if everyone could get clarity about their lives and move forward through being supported by a coach? What if everyone could shift their focus toward a green lens as opposed to a red lens and make the difference they came here to make?

Coach’s Comments Regarding the Value of Membership in ICF CO:
We don’t have to go through life proving our value believing “We have to do it ourselves.” What if we could see that the people in our lives who care about us actually want to support us in what we are doing? What if we opened ourselves up to a community of individuals who support others on their hero’s journey. More heads are better than one and available to us when we join ICF.
